Are things difficult at home?

Are you worried about your relationship with your parent or carer?

Do you shout, hit or damage property just to get heard?

Disagreements with parents or carers are normal.

However it is particularly difficult during this period of lock down. You are spending more time at home, not seeing your friends, maybe missing school!

when you behaviour scares those around us or becomes physically violent it is not okay.

Everyone at home has the right to feel safe and be able to express themselves without getting hurt including you.

We can offer you a free text or phone chat, support and advice.

In conflict with your parent or carer right now?

Here’s what you can do:

  • Find a safe space to sit

  • Remove yourself from the argument

  • Make sure you have your phone with you so you can contact a friend or someone you trust for support

  • Talk to someone

  • Stay calm

Take a walk around the block -  You need to allow yourself time and space to think about why the behaviour started (sometimes this is not always clear)

Try some breathing techniques – Breathe in to the count of 5 and out to the count of 7

Give yourself time to think about what it is you want to say - By doing this you can give clear messages about what you want to happen and how you are feeling.

It is important to use Calm, Clear Communication – shouting and arguing isn't going to get your view across.
